In order to meet the demands of heavy foot-fall traffic and regular cleaning routines, it was essential that a flat, hard wearing and low maintenance floor be specified.  It was also vital to ensure that the chosen sub-floor would provide the perfect base for the fixing of large format Domus Ecolight 600mm x 600mm floor tiles.

Because the existing sub-floor was uneven, ARDEX K 15-B Rapid Drying Pumpable Sub-Floor Smoothing Compound Base Mix was specified at 11mm. Specifically designed for thicker levelling applications from 7mm to 35mm, ARDEX K 15-B is perfect for use in installations where fast track performance is necessary combining innovation, cost effectiveness and ease of use to deliver excellent results. With incorporated ARDEX Rapidry Formula technology, rapid drying and hardening are guaranteed, ensuring that the surface is hard enough to walk on just 2 hours after application regardless of thickness!  Thereafter, floor tiles may be installed after as little as 4 hours.

To fix the large format tiles, ARDEX MICROTEC X 78 S Ultra Rapid Setting Floor Tile Adhesive was specified in grey. Since its introduction in 2008, the MICROTEC range of tiling adhesives from ARDEX has taken the market by storm. The revolutionary new combination of polymers, specialist cement and MICROTEC fibres give ARDEX X 78 S unique user benefits. These include ultra rapid strength development and adhesion. As well as being an enhanced adhesive, ARDEX X 78 S has a unique consistency that provides all of the benefits of a pourable adhesive without the disadvantages (such as dripping). The ultimate in rapid hardening performance allows a walk on and grouting time of only 90 minutes.

To conclude the installation, high performance ARDEX–FLEX FL Grey Rapid Setting Flexible Grout was used to fill the tile joints. ARDEX-FLEX FL grout, now available in 32 colours, is frequently used for demanding locations such as shopping centres and swimming pools so was ideal for this application.
