Elk Enters Flooring Market with VersaShield

Specialty Fabric Technologies (Elk) continues to penetrate the specialty fabric market with the introduction of new VersaShield flooring underlayment, a rolled-good, moisture barrier designed for ease of installation under carpet and carpet tiles.

VersaShield underlayment provides a layer of moisture protection under carpet and carpet tile. The product wicks moisture away to eliminate damp and mold potential. Unlike other moisture barriers, VersaShield contains no harmful epoxy, urethanes or solvents.

Its free-standing design makes it so simple to install that no special training is necessary. The product is unrolled directly onto the sub floor and seamed with VersaTape™ to ensure continuous moisture resistance. After installation, flooring can be laid immediately on top of the underlayment as no curing time is required.

VersaShield has been tested and results indicate the product reduces Moisture Vapor Evaporation Ratio from levels as high as 12 pounds to considerably below three pounds per 1000 square feet over 24 hours as per ASTM F1869.

Robert Pine, Executive Vice President of Elk Specialty Fabrics Technologies said, "VersaShield underlayment for flooring is revolutionary in its design, making installation a snap. Elk's commitment to non-toxic barriers for consumer use now extends from fire barrier fabrics for home goods to the flooring industry with our VersaShield underlayment. We will continue to bring new barrier products to the market place providing solutions for both moisture control and fire resistance."

Available in both 36-inch by 180-feet and 72-inch by 90-feet rolls, VersaShield underlayment can be used for new and remedial installations and is covered by a 10-year limited warranty. Check with your local flooring distributor for availability in your area.

Elk is working to expand its VersaShield flooring underlayment line to include products for ceramic tile, laminate flooring and hard wood floors slated for availability Spring of 2006.
