Bentley Prince Street Rolled Out Carpet for Presidential Inauguration and Green Inaugural Ball.
Bentley Prince Street played a supporting role in a truly historic moment during the 44th presidential inauguration ceremony and festivities on January 20, 2009. President Barack Obama and Vice President Joseph Biden were sworn into office standing on Bentley Prince Street’s Kings Road™ carpet. During the ceremony, the striking red and blue carpet cascaded down the U.S. Capitol’s steps as another symbol of the enduring entrepreneurial spirit of the country.
Bentley Prince Street also made history by providing a “green” climate neutral carpet for the 2009 Green Inaugural Ball held on January 19th to celebrate the inauguration of President Obama and Vice President Biden and America’s green economy. Former Vice President Al Gore served as the event’s Honorary Chair and was joined by more than 75 environmental, conservation, labor and other groups promoting clean and efficient energy and a green economy.
“Bentley Prince Street is proud to participate in this historic moment for our nation and all it represents for the opportunity ahead,” said Anthony Minite, president of Bentley Prince Street. “And it was an honor to provide a truly green carpet for the first ever Green Inaugural Ball – a true celebration of both the inauguration and our own sustainability mission. We know that – working together – we will create a green healthy future for us all.”
For the 2009 Green Inaugural Ball, Bentley Prince Street’s carpet was made with 10% post-consumer recycled content and 100% renewable electrical energy. The carpet’s climate impact was also completely offset through the purchase of verified emissions reduction credits through Bentley Prince Street’s Cool Carpet™ program.
None of this carpet will ever wind up in a landfill. After the event, all of the carpet will be reclaimed through the company’s ReEntry® 2.0 program, resulting in 500 pounds of carpet diverted from landfills.
Bentley Prince Street produced the “green” carpet at its California manufacturing facility, which is the first in the country to receive a silver rating from the U.S. Green Building Council's Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design for Existing Buildings (LEED®-EB). The carpet is also designated as an environmentally preferable product, and certified to the gold level of NSF-140, the Sustainable Carpet Assessment Standard.
