With the development of the new National Stadium at Wembley, UK now underway, a new turf protection system will be needed to protect the grass during concerts and other non-sporting events scheduled to take place at the stadium.
In 1990, Wembley purchased a turf protection system from Terraplas plc for this purpose. This year the company was once again approached by Wembley to come up with a turf protection system for use during such events. At the time, Terraplas was developing a new removable floor system called Terraflor, designed to protect turf at stadiums around the world. Terraplas then approached SATRA for assistance in the measurement of surface friction (slipperiness) of its new floor system.
SATRA assisted Terraplas in the design of the top surface, ensuring good resistance to slipping in both wet and dry conditions whilst retaining the floor's properties for liquid spill removal and ease of cleaning.
Robert Else of Terraplas said: "We are very pleased with the way that SATRA's testing capabilities and knowledge of anti-slip flooring patterns has helped us develop this product and make it even more suitable for its market. Public safety is paramount in spectator facilities. The testing work has helped to ensure that 10,000m2 of the Terraflor system will be used at the new National Stadium at Wembley."
