As part of an ongoing contract, the SATRA floor coverings team has been testing floorings intended for use in Korean trains and stations for a variety of performance factors including: slip, resistance to a range of chemicals, flexibility, hardness, dimensional stability, reaction to fire and resistance to burns from cigarettes that are left unattended or stubbed out on the floor. The team is also testing for the propensity to generate a static charge. This requires assessing how much static is created between footwear and the floor surface when walking. If too much static is created and the walker touches metal, it could lead to an electric shock.
SATRA's floor coverings team is renowned for its extensive laboratories that are equipped to test different flooring materials for physical, environmental and health and safety properties, and often creates bespoke tests for customers where national and international standards are not available.
SATRA's Steve Ferry said of the contract: "This is another development in our expansion of services.
