English businessman, inventor and entrepreneur, Jonathan Vaughan, was impressed to learn first hand what Sir Bob Geldof of the 'Make Poverty History' movement thought about the contribution small businesses are making to the global effort to reduce poverty and disease.
Sir Bob Geldof was Guest of Honour at the recent Dubai International Humanitarian Aid and Development Conference and Exhibition in Dubai, where local firm, Vaughans of Leicester Ltd, was demonstrating their brand new portable helicopter landing system, which has recently been granted British Patent with world wide patent pending. The system is used for rapid deployment of aid and resources in areas where relief work is taking place.
Taking the time to demonstrate his support for the businesses at the show, Sir Bob Geldof visited the Vaughans of Leicester stand and Mr Vaughan reported his comments saying, "Sir Bob Geldof said that aid works, and what we are doing works, but if we insist on certain policies for countries and then break those promises the consequences of this behaviour are never ending. There is no point making commitments which are not kept, the consequences of this are horrendous."
Vaughans of Leicester has been working in this sector for the past five years, supporting peace keeping and humanitarian aid initiatives by supplying their innovative access systems. This is the third time the Leicester firm has exhibited at this very high profile event in Dubai. Mr Vaughan said: "I did feel that Sir Bob Geldof was extremely supportive of what a number of smaller businesses were trying to achieve, that we had bothered to make the effort to go there to meet agencies and other NGOs with a view to working successfully in this sector."
On meeting Sir Bob Geldof, Mr Vaughan said, "He is truly inspirational, a thoroughly good bloke and I was delighted to meet him and have a brief chat."
The event is already proving a success for Vaughans of Leicester, with enquiries from a number of countries including Afghanistan, Jordan, Pakistan, India, Africa and central Europe being progressed in line with the launch of the new heli-tile landing system.
