LIGNA Hannover - Resource efficiency a keynote theme at forestry and energy displays. Focus on the efficient, sustainable use of raw materials and technology in the forestry industry. Resource efficiency will be a keynote theme at next year's LIGNA HANNOVER, the World Fair for the Forestry and Wood Industries, which runs from 18 to 22 May in Hannover, Germany. As the primary link in the timber production and supply chain, the forestry industry will occupy center stage at LIGNA HANNOVER 2009 in a showcase that focuses on systems and solutions for the efficient, sustainable use of raw materials and technology.

The previous LIGNA event, LIGNA HANNOVER 2007, spanned 148,800 sqm (over 1,601,600 sq. ft) of net display space and provided powerful international exposure for 1,832 exhibitors. 8.9 percent of this net display space was dedicated to the forestry and forestry technology sectors. The 2007 fair attracted 107,279 visitors (including 45,800 from beyond Germany) and registered a 52 percent increase in trade visitors from the forestry, agriculture, forestry technology and mobile sawmilling sectors. These facts are clear testimony to the central importance of the forestry industry within the overall LIGNA showcase.

In 2009, LIGNA HANNOVER will again feature a winning tradeshow format, thanks to its successful integration of partners from the forestry and energy industries. This enables the show to profile the totality of potential synergies between the forestry industry and all downstream segments of the timber and wood industries.

Resource efficiency and sustainability are top of the agenda at LIGNA HANNOVER. This key focus is not limited to efficient timber use by processors of wood or time savings by manufacturers of wood processing machines. It also embraces issues of security of timber supply and resource and energy conservation based on sustainable and efficient forestry methods and technologies. Of course, achieving clearly defined resource efficiency and sustainability targets necessitates ongoing technological innovation in all areas, including timber harvesting and hauling, wood working and processing machinery, equipment and tools, and timber storage. Which is why in 2009 the fair's sawmilling technology section will profile a range of forward-looking technologies, innovations, production processes, machines and timber processing systems. It is also why the transport section will be dedicated to new, high-efficiency technologies for timber transportation, handling, storage and logistics and associated machinery solutions. And, as an equally important part of the resource efficiency equation, energy from wood will again be one of the keynote themes at the next LIGNA HANNOVER.

LIGNA HANNOVER also includes an array of forums, speaking events and special displays that play a vital networking and knowledge-transfer role within the forestry industry. The organizers, Deutsche Messe and the German Woodworking Machinery Manufacturers' Association within the VDMA, work closely with exhibitors, industry associations and institutions to ensure the continuous development and improvement of LIGNA HANNOVER.

Accordingly, the organizers are currently planning the following new features for the forestry section of the fair:

Central Information Desk - The forestry section, which will be located on the open-air site and in the pavilions around the EXPO canopy, will next year have a central information point. There, visitors will be able to find all the information they need on the forestry and energy display areas, including specific details of forestry-industry exhibitors and innovative products.

Next-Generation Job Market - Helping tomorrow's young forestry employees get the orientation they need will be once again be a top priority at LIGNA HANNOVER in 2009. On each of the fair's five days, interested young people will have the unrivalled opportunity to learn about and meet prospective employers, make valuable contacts for their future careers and discover what exciting job options best suit their particular skills and interests.

"Hot Innovations" pavilion - The organizers are partnering with the German Forestry Council (KWF) to profile in-depth research and user-oriented applications in the forestry sector with reference to a select range of innovative products.
